TOEIC? Nail it!
By: Teacher Lucille Saraspe
Let me talk about the tactics used in TOEIC Listening Parts 3 and 4 not because I don’t know the tactics for the other parts but because I am a teacher of the above mentioned parts. (Well, you should also know that I kind of hesitated when they asked me to spill my secrets because these kept me on top of TOEIC tests more than any other teachers in Philinter…. But I am surely just kidding.) So here is my disclosure and pay close attention because I don’t usually do so for I’m a secretive person.
First, you have to skim and predict the context. By that I mean let your imagination work to the fullest. Whenever I ask my students about the situation in the conversation or talk, I feel euphoric when they can blab about it for a couple of minutes (although I’m quite sure they know that I know that they are just guessing but no matter! What’s more important is they made the most out of their guess.) Second, they have to master the art of paraphrasing which means you are a non-thinking human being if you believe that the TOEIC recording uses the same sentences in the answer choices. Are you a non-thinking human? Common! Third, you have to note the keywords and other important information. If you don’t want to write anything on your paper, better use your fingernails to remind you of your answers. Believe me, it’s effective. I had a student who nailed TOEIC with a 950 simply because of that. Fourth, be aware of the same word distracters and you are once again probably infected with some brain inflammation if you don’t understand where I’m trying you to get at. Lastly, you really have to come toPhilinter if you desire to know more about the tactics. I promise I will never deprive you the chance to see and discuss with me. (It is not sometimes possible because I devote my full concentration on teaching my students each day.) There have been a lot of TOEIC students who passed through the eye of the hook, who have gone through tests of fire, who have almost died in their pursuit of success, who were regained from death and eventually throve. You too could experience the same exhilarating thing. What else are you waiting for? Hurry and I’ll see you in my class!
